Since the year 2001, working in notebooks became one of the most important facets of Mazen Kerbaj’s work. Being always on the road, the notebook became not only a diary, a sketchbook and a travel journal, but also and primally a portable laboratory in which the artist experiments all kind of new techniques of drawing and of storytelling.
Between 2001 and 2010 Kerbaj filled 24 notebooks of drawings. Ten Years is an installation presenting side by side the notebooks in a showcase and the totality of the 2753 drawings projected on 24 small screens, each one “playing” an entire notebook in a loop. The result is a constantly changing work, virtually never repeating itself (the possible combinations are beyond one octillion).
Ten Years has been showed in the collective exhibition Rebirth at the Beirut Exhibition Center in 2011 and at the Abu Dhabi Art Fair in 2012.
