The first "trumpet projects" of many others to come in Mazen Kerbaj's discography. This recording session from 2003 saw Kerbaj playing in duo with one of the great trumpet innovators, Franz Hautzinger. Both men has worked together in several projects since (Oriental Space, Ariha...) and keep playing in duo to date.

While obviously harsh and confrontational, this improvised session has many beautiful moments, thanks to the variety of inventions of the two performers, really melting into each other's sound. A bumpy path, but also one that the listener will want to walk several times.
[Eugenio Maggi – Chain DLK]
The extraction of specific languages from conventional instruments - in this case a pair of trumpets - comes pretty comfortably to Hautzinger and Kerbaj, whose two-edged duo offers a series of sockets where we can plug to recharge the spent batteries of the "been there, done that" mechanism alimenting certain improvisations.
[Massimo Ricci – Touching Extremes]
This is fascinating, evocative stuff.
[Jason Bivins – Dusted Magazine]
[Joseph Ghosn – Les Inrockuptibles]
